Rev. Janice L. Bryant has attended Ebenezer Baptist Church since the first Sunday after she moved to Austin in 1976. She is Ebenezer’s Minister of Christian Education, having accepted this position of service in January, 2004.
Janice was born in Magnolia, Mississippi, second of the three children of Hazel and Jerry Lee Bryant. She was educated in the Mississippi public schools, completing her Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Jackson State University. While teaching elementary school at Magnolia Elementary School, she received her Master’s Degree in Gifted Child Education from the University of Southern Mississippi.
In 1976, Janice was accepted into The George Washington University Education Policy Fellowship Program. Her appointment was consultant intern for Gifted and Talented Education at the Texas Education Agency in Austin, Texas. After completing her internship, Janice remained in Austin, teaching junior high and high school reading and special education. She received Administration and Supervision Certification from the University of Texas at Austin.
After being called to the Ministry of Proclamation, Janice completed her career in the Austin public school system in 1998, retiring as Assistant Principal of McCallum High School. She attended Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and earned a Master of Divinity Degree in 2001. She is currently enrolled in the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary’s Doctor of Ministry Program.
Rev. Bryant enjoys Bible study, and teaching the Word of God in small groups. Her favorite pastimes are listening to music, playing piano, singing, reading, playing Scrabble, and completing variety puzzles.
