| Ebenezer Baptist Church, an historic institution of more than 700 members located near downtown Austin, is dedicated to the service of God including a tradition of excellence in music. We are now seeking the services of an energized, creative individual to lead our music program. The position offers the opportunity and challenge of building upon a legacy of excellence that runs the gamut of musical genres from spirituals to gospel to anthems and encompasses creative traditional/contemporary performances among its several choirs, ensembles, and musicians. | SALARY |
| Starting salary is in the range $31,500 to $46,500 commensurate with qualifications and experience. |

| JOB DESCRIPTION |
| Job Title |
Minister of Music |
| Purpose |
Provide a comprehensive worshipful music program of praise and thanksgiving to God that complements the Spoken word.
|
| |
|
| Key Relationships |
Work directly with the Senior Pastor, all part-time paid music staff and volunteers; meet and consult with all appropriate worship and music committees; work with other departments and staff as needed to provide for the overall music program.
|
| |
| Major Responsibility (Performed over 40 Hour Work Week) |
| |
1. Choose, prepare music and serve as primary conductor for choirs and oversee all musical ensembles involved in weekly worship services and special events. |
| |
2. Supervise and delegate tasks to the various music staff and volunteers |
| |
3.Manage and execute necessary administrative functions |
| |
4. Represent Ebenezer Baptist Church and its music program to the congregation and community. |
| Minimum Requirements |
Three years or more in choral and instrumental conducting; proficiency on piano and organ; Bachelor's Degree (preferably in music-related field)

| |
| Typical Duties may include, but are not limited to: |
| Primary Conductor |
- Choose, prepare and conduct choir and ensemble music for Sundays and special services.
- Rehearse choirs on a weekly/bi-weekly basis, as well as extra rehearsals, if needed, for special events.
- Prepare responses and other liturgical music in coordination with worship team.
- Provide spiritual leadership and inspiration as appropriate to both participants and congregation.
- Plan major choral works and other artistic programming within and beyond the worship context.
- Arrange for substitutes as needed.
- Coach soloists, groups, ensembles and instrumentalists.

Supervise and delegate tasks to the various music staffs and volunteers |
- Supervise and direct work of music staff and volunteers.
- Work with Assistant Minister of Music/instructors to schedule solos, instrumental groups and ensembles for services throughout the year.
- Arrange for additional performers, as needed.
- Recruit and support membership in musical ensembles.
- Participate in hiring and evaluating music department staff.

| Administrative: |
- Prepare and administer music budget.
- Purchase and/or rent music as needed.
- Recommend/supervise hymnal selection/purchase as needed.
- Provide and proof bulletin information (or arrange for same).
- Oversee care and maintenance of musical instruments.
- Prepare correspondence, as needed.
- Integrate use of computer skills, as needed, to enhance the total music program.

| Represent Ebenezer's music program to both internal and external audiences. |
| Internal |
- Advocate for creativity in worship
- Regularly attend meetings of music staff and other church groups.
- Prepare and present Music Department's Annual Report at Ebenezer's Annual Church Meeting.

| External |
- Provide and/or assist with music for weddings and funerals as requested
- Develop leadership role in local music organizations, workshops and associations.

| EVALUATION AND COMPENSATION |
| Performance reviewed periodically by the Senior Pastor, and annually by Senior Pastor and Music Committee. |
| |
| DAYS AND HOURS: |
| To be equivalent to a 40-hour work week. Additional responsibilities may be assigned from time to time by the Senior Pastor. |
