Rev. Rodney Swisher is a native Austinite and a product of the Austin Independent School District. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served his country diligently for four years (1973 – 1977). To further his education, he earned an Associate Degree of Applied Sciences from Austin Community College and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from St. Edwards University (cum laude, 1993).

Rev. Swisher accepted his call to the ministry and was ordained as a Gospel Minister at Ebenezer Baptist Church in December of 1986. Mindful of the instruction given by Paul in II Timothy 2:15 *, he matriculated at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and in 1998 he was awarded the Master of Divinity Degree.

As part of his service to God here at Ebenezer, Rev. Swisher currently serves on staff as Assistant to the Pastor performing assigned duties under the direction of Pastor Griffin.
He is a teacher covering seventh and eight grades in both Sunday School and Discipleship Training. In addition, he serves as Treasurer of the Baptist Brotherhood, Outreach Committee Leader, and Congregational Care Leader at the church.

He and his lovely wife, Carrie Organ Swisher, have been married for twenty-nine years and are the parents of three adult children: Rodney W. (Anitra), Courtney, and Joel.
